Videonystagmography (VNG)

A specialized diagnostic test used to evaluate dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders by analyzing inner ear and eye movement function.

What is VNG?

Understanding VNG Testing

Videonystagmography (VNG) is a diagnostic test that evaluates balance problems and dizziness by measuring involuntary eye movements (nystagmus).

Because the inner ear and brain work together to control balance and eye motion, abnormal eye movements can indicate whether symptoms originate from the vestibular system (inner ear) or the central nervous system.

During VNG testing, infrared video goggles record eye movements while different positional and stimulation tests are performed.

When VNG?

When Is Vng Recommended?

Frequent Dizziness

Recurring dizziness or imbalance without a clear cause may require vestibular evaluation.

Vertigo (Spinning Sensation)

If you feel as though the room is spinning, VNG helps determine whether the inner ear is involved.

Unsteady Balance

Difficulty walking straight, frequent falls, or instability may indicate vestibular dysfunction.

Nausea Related to Motion

Persistent motion sensitivity or nausea triggered by head movements may be linked to balance disorders.

What to Expect During VNG Testing

During the procedure:

The test may briefly reproduce dizziness symptoms, but this is temporary and helps identify the underlying cause.
